New Business Centre set for success

Witney based Hexagon Business Centres has launched its latest serviced office suite in a building owned by WODC in Witney.  The 5,000 sq ft building, vacated by council staff following efficiency savings including shared services with other authorities, provides flexible accommodation for firms to grow. The first tenants to move in are Coaching Impact and Independent Opinion Research Networks. The building has been refurbished to provide a range of offices offering accommodation for sole operators as well as firms with up to 20 staff. Tenants are offered “easy in, easy out” terms with a simple monthly licence fee including rent, rates, electricity, water, superfast broadband and hosted communications as well as free, dedicated parking and an on-site café.

Royal recognition for medical firm

Owen Mumford has been recognised as a winner of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, Innovation 2017 – the UK’s highest accolade for business success. The firm received the honour for its innovations in medical device design and manufacturing.

Now other local businesses are being urged to enter.  In addition to being able to fly The Queen’s Award flag and use the emblem on marketing materials, winners have reported benefiting from worldwide recognition, increased commercial value, greater press coverage and a boost to staff morale.  The deadline for applications is midday 01 September.

Finance Forum for Breakfast

Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a finance forum on 24 May.  Business finance experts will highlight the different support and funding available for county-based firms including solutions to cashflow problems and how to access research and development tax credits. The event will inform businesses how they can improve or better manage their finances. Speakers include Max Harvey from MarketInvoice, Johno Harris from R&D tax experts Aspen Waite and Heather Martin from the Oxfordshire LEP.

Register for the Summer MegaBreakfast

The Witney Business Breakfast team are joining forces with other local networking groups to hold a 'Summer MegaBreakfast' at Blenheim Palace on 22 June.  This year’s guest speaker is Darryl Eales, Chairman of Oxford United FC, while the event will double up as the launch of the Twin Town Challenge 2018. The Challenge, in aid of disability charity SpecialEffect, will see 100 teams travelling to Witney's twin town, Le Touquet in northern France, in a car worth no more than £500. More than 100 local business people are expected to attend.

Pitch for funding with Oxfordshire Soup

There is still time to apply to pitch at next month's Oxfordshire Soup.  Small businesses can pitch to their peers in a friendly and supportive atmosphere at the 'live crowd-funding' event at Abingdon & Witney College on Friday 16 June.  It’s a great opportunity to give your business some exposure and be in with a chance of winning the £1,000 prize and support package  Deadline for applying to pitch is 4 June.

‘Biggest’ networking event ready for business

Branded “the biggest business networking and showcase event in the county,” Business in Oxford returns for a fourth year at a new location, The King’s Centre in Osney Mead, Oxford. The 30,000sq ft. venue will welcome over 70 exhibition stands, keynote speakers and host more than 25 seminars, presentations and round table sessions. It takes place on Thursday 11 May from 8.15am, starting with a networking breakfast with the official opening of the event following at 9am.

Discover what happens to your food waste

Local people are being invited to a free tour of the Agrivert food waste plant in Cassington to find out what happens to leftovers collected weekly by the Council. The Cassington plant processes food waste from across Oxfordshire and creates fertiliser for local farmers to use, along with enough electricity to power over 4,000 homes on an on-going basis. The visit will take place on 10 May at 10.30am.
